Installation, Repair & Maintenance From Tri-Valley’s Trusted HVAC Team
A heat pump uses electricity to move heat rather than generating it through combustion, giving you both a heating system and an air conditioner in a single unit. In summer, it pulls heat out of your home; in winter, it reverses the process, extracting warmth from outdoor air to heat your living space. One system handles year-round comfort as an alternative to separate gas and electric equipment.
Eagle Air has been installing and servicing heat pumps in Livermore and the Tri-Valley since 1993. We’re a family- and employee-owned company serving both residential and commercial properties, and our NATE-certified technicians are trained on modern systems including variable-speed equipment. As a Trane Comfort Specialist and Lennox Premier Dealer, including the Lennox Powered by Samsung designation for ductless mini-split systems, we carry equipment from Trane, Lennox, and Rheem so we can match the right system to each home’s architecture and load requirements rather than defaulting to a single brand. Whether you’re replacing an aging furnace and AC combination, adding a system to a room without ductwork, or managing heat pumps you already own, we’re equipped to help.
If you already own a heat pump, knowing when to call for service can keep a minor issue from turning into a full system failure. Common warning signs include unusual grinding or rattling noises, weak or inconsistent airflow, rooms that won’t reach the set temperature, ice forming on the outdoor unit outside of defrost cycles, and energy bills that have climbed without a change in usage patterns.
Our NATE-certified technicians diagnose and repair all heat pump makes and models, not just the brands we install. Variable-speed heat pump systems are particularly sensitive to refrigerant charge levels and airflow balance; even small calibration errors reduce efficiency and accelerate wear. We also provide comprehensive heat pump maintenance to help keep your system operating at its rated SEER2 efficiency and to catch developing problems before they result in a no-heat or no-cool call. For urgent situations, we offer same-day appointments and 24/7 emergency HVAC service throughout Livermore and the surrounding Tri-Valley.

A heat pump doesn’t generate heat by burning fuel; it moves heat from one place to another. In cooling mode, it operates like an air conditioner, drawing heat out of your home and releasing it outside. In heating mode, it does the reverse: it extracts heat from the outdoor air (yes, even when it’s cold outside) and moves it into your home. Because the system transfers rather than creates heat, it can deliver more heating energy than the electricity it consumes.
The key component is a reversing valve that switches the direction of refrigerant flow depending on whether heating or cooling is needed. Eagle Air installs both ducted heat pumps that work with your existing ductwork and ductless mini-split systems, which allow you to heat or cool specific rooms without ducts. Ductless systems work particularly well for home additions, garages, or older homes where running ductwork isn’t practical. We also install air-source and geothermal heat pump systems for properties where ground-source efficiency gains may justify the investment.
Livermore’s winters are mild compared to much of the country, which means an air-source heat pump can handle much of a home’s heating demand without a backup heating source. Heat pumps operate efficiently in cold weather, and Tri-Valley temperatures rarely test those lower limits. When summer arrives and temperatures climb into the upper 90s and beyond on peak days, the same system cools your home as effectively as a conventional air conditioner.
California’s building codes under Title 24 are pushing new construction toward electric heating systems and away from natural gas appliances as part of the state’s electrification and air quality goals. Heat pumps produce no on-site combustion emissions, which puts them in direct alignment with where California is headed. For homeowners in Livermore weighing a new system, that regulatory direction matters for long-term ownership considerations and resale value alike.

Heat Pump Installation, Repair & Maintenance in Livermore
Our heat pump services cover every stage of ownership for residential and commercial properties throughout Livermore and the Tri-Valley. Each service line has its own dedicated page with details on what to expect.
Heat Pump Installation We start with a home or building assessment, reviewing your space, existing infrastructure, and comfort goals to select the right system from our lineup of Trane, Lennox, and Rheem equipment. Installation includes proper refrigerant charging, airflow calibration, and code-compliant commissioning so the system can achieve its rated SEER2 efficiency. We install both ducted air-source systems and ductless mini-split configurations for properties with or without existing ductwork.
Heat Pump Repair Our NATE-certified technicians diagnose component-level issues across all makes and models, including compressor problems, reversing valve faults, refrigerant charge imbalances, and electrical failures. We’re not limited to the brands we install, so if you’re dealing with a heat pump we didn’t put in, we can still service it and recommend repairs that balance comfort, efficiency, and budget.
Heat Pump Maintenance Routine maintenance typically includes system inspection, coil cleaning, refrigerant level verification, filter replacement, and electrical connection checks. Annual service helps support efficiency ratings, supports long equipment life, and identifies developing issues before they become costly repairs. We provide ongoing maintenance programs for both residential and commercial clients across the Tri-Valley.
Precision Installation & Financing Options
A heat pump relies on precise calibration to achieve its efficiency ratings, requiring exact refrigerant charging, balanced airflow, and strict code compliance. Improper installation can void manufacturer warranties and leave the system running below its rated SEER2 output. Our technicians undergo rigorous training on modern variable-speed systems and use manufacturer-grade diagnostic tools to verify that every component functions as designed before we consider an installation complete.
A complete system replacement is a significant investment, often ranging from several thousand to over $20,000 depending on system type and scope. We partner with Wells Fargo to offer financing on qualifying equipment, so you can begin capturing potential energy savings while spreading the cost over a manageable timeline. Several California and federal incentive programs have historically supported heat pump installations, though availability and program status change frequently. We monitor current programs, including potential PG&E utility rebates for qualifying high-efficiency systems, and can help you identify what may apply to your situation during a free estimate consultation.
