Air Filtration Services in Livermore
Advanced Particle Reduction for Homes in the East Bay Region
The standard filter in your furnace or air conditioning system is designed to protect your equipment, not your lungs. Those thin fiberglass filters catch large debris, such as dust clumps and pet hair, but they let smaller particles, like pollen, mold spores, and smoke, pass right through. In the Tri-Valley, where we deal with agricultural dust, seasonal pollen, and wildfire smoke, basic filtration isn't enough to keep your indoor air clean.
Eagle Air installs higher-efficiency filtration systems that capture particles down to much smaller sizes without restricting airflow or damaging your HVAC equipment. We work with your home's existing heating and cooling systems to upgrade filtration in a way that actually improves air quality while maintaining efficient system operation. Whether you're dealing with allergies, excessive dust, or smoke during fire season, better filtration makes a noticeable difference in how your home feels and how easily your family breathes.

What Are MERV Ratings?
Air filters are rated on a scale called MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value), which measures their ability to capture particles of different sizes. A cheap fiberglass filter might be MERV 1-4, which catches large dust particles but not much else. Higher MERV ratings (8-13) capture smaller particles, such as pollen, mold spores, and dust mite debris. The highest residential ratings (MERV 14-16) can even capture smoke and bacteria.
Here's the catch: higher efficiency means more resistance to airflow. A filter that's too dense for your system forces the blower motor to work harder, which reduces airflow to your rooms and can cause your equipment to overheat or freeze up.
Eagle Air matches filter efficiency to your specific system's capabilities, so you get better air quality without sacrificing performance. Sometimes, that means upgrading to a thicker media filter with a larger surface area, which captures more particles while maintaining proper airflow.

From Hair to Smoke: What Filters Can and Can’t Catch
Understanding filter performance means knowing what you're trying to capture.
A human hair measures about 50–70 microns, while visible dust particles are around 10 microns. The real troublemakers, like pollen, mold spores, smoke, and bacteria, are often 2.5 microns or smaller. These tiny particles can linger in the air for hours or even days, easily bypassing your body’s natural defenses when you breathe them in.
Standard 1-inch filters from the hardware store typically can’t trap particles smaller than 10 microns. Eagle Air installs media filters that are 4–5 inches thick, providing a significantly larger surface area. This added space captures the smallest particles that standard filters miss while maintaining proper airflow through your system. The result is cleaner air without the drawbacks of forcing air through an overly restrictive filter.
