Furnace Maintenance in Livermore

Routine Heater Tune-Ups in the East Bay Region

Your furnace burns natural gas inside your home to keep you warm, which means safety and reliability aren't optional; they're essential. A well-maintained furnace runs efficiently, costs less to operate, and won't leave you without heat on the coldest night of the year. Skip maintenance, and you're rolling the dice on carbon monoxide leaks, mid-winter breakdowns, and higher gas bills.

Eagle Air has been servicing furnaces in the Tri-Valley since 1993. Our maintenance visits include a thorough inspection of the heat exchanger (the most critical safety component), cleaning the burner assembly, testing the ignition system, and checking for any issues that could cause problems once temperatures drop.

The Critical Role of the Heat Exchanger

The heat exchanger is a metal chamber where natural gas is burned. It separates the flame and exhaust gases from the air that circulates through your home. Every time your furnace runs, the heat exchanger expands from the heat and contracts as it cools down. Over thousands of cycles, this constant stress can cause cracks to form in the metal.

A cracked heat exchanger is dangerous because it allows combustion gases, including carbon monoxide, to leak into your home's air supply. These cracks are often hairline fractures that are difficult to spot and only open up when the metal is hot.

Eagle Air inspects the heat exchanger during every maintenance visit, as this is the most critical safety check we perform. If we find a crack, we'll tell you immediately and explain your options, as this isn't something you can ignore.

Why Furnaces Stop Working Mid-Season

Modern furnaces have a flame sensor that sits in the burner and confirms the gas is actually lit. This metal rod generates a tiny electrical signal to tell the control board that everything is safe to operate. Over time, the sensor becomes coated with carbon deposits from the burning gas, and when the coating thickens enough, the signal weakens. Eventually, the furnace shuts down as a safety precaution or refuses to stay lit at all.

Cleaning the flame sensor takes a few minutes and solves one of the most common reasons furnaces quit working in the middle of winter. Eagle Air also checks the gas pressure at the manifold during maintenance visits to make sure your furnace is burning the right amount of fuel. Too much pressure wastes gas and causes overheating, while too little can lead to condensation and corrosion inside the unit. Keeping everything calibrated correctly means your furnace runs efficiently and reliably.

Maintenance Plans That Make Sense

Eagle Air offers annual maintenance plans that include two visits per year, one for your furnace before winter and one for your air conditioner before summer. Members get priority scheduling during cold snaps when everyone else is calling for emergency service, plus discounts on repairs and diagnostic fees if something does go wrong.

Our NATE-certified technicians handle the inspections, so you're getting someone who actually knows how to diagnose problems, not just check boxes on a list. We tighten electrical connections, test safety controls, and confirm everything is operating as it should. The cost of a maintenance plan is far less than what you'd pay for even one emergency repair, and it gives you confidence that your heating system will work when you need it.
